ECHOS will be a VITA Site!!!
VITA - Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program
A program developed by the Internal Revenue Service to help those families with gross incomes for the year of less than $39,000.00 receive both the earned income credit and the child care credits for which they may be eligible.
– Tax returns are prepared AT NO COST TO THE CLIENT
– Tax refunds are received WITHIN TWO WEEKS OR SO OF FILING THE RETURN!
- VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
We need people to help with this project weekdays (9:00 am - 1:00 pm) from late January through April 15th. Please consider giving of your time. - CLIENT SERVICES:
Come to ECHOS and let us help you with your return. You do NOT NEED to pay dollars you do not have to file a basic tax return!
COMPUTER LITERACY COURSES:
We hope to have these up and running by mid-January, 2008. Call us and let us know if you are interested in attending - or in teaching!
FOR EVERY CHILD A BOOK – We provide a book to take home for all children who come to our campus. Needed are books in English and Spanish, plastic storage containers to keep books in and a volunteer or two to come in once or twice a month to sort and restock our shelves.
STAYING IN SCHOOL – We all know the importance of staying in school. We would like to provide some small reward for kids who have perfect attendance—movie tickets, a dinner, a bicycle—any donation would be welcome. We will make sure the child is honored at ECHOS and work with our local high schools.
PREGNANT TEENS – We have seen an increase in teen pregnancies and an increase in the number of girls and their parents coming to ECHOS for help. In collaboration with the Bishop Leo Pregnancy Center we are collecting baby items to help these teens meet basic needs.
